WHO IT IS FOR:

Residential EPIC classes certify vocational instructors and HVACR professionals to teach residential heating and cooling system design principles using ACCA industry standard manuals and materials from ACCA’s Environmental Systems Library.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The new process will involve a knowledge assessment that is followed by an instructor evaluation. To ensure that instructors remain abreast of changing technology needs,  EPIC certification expires five years after the successful completion of the program.

EPIC REVISED:

The test is currently being updated and rewritten, looking to be released in Fall 2024 through ACCA’s online testing portal.  Applicants will register for the test and pay the associated fee. Upon successful completion (passing grade is 80%) the applicant will receive an email with:

  • A set of topics on which they will be asked to present, and
  • A target date to present the assigned content.
  • An online meeting will be coordinated to allow the candidate to present their material virtually to a panel of students/evaluators.

The whole process will be completed online: online testing and virtual presentation.

The basis for this process is that ACCA presumes that instructors already possess the necessary fundamental knowledge and are able to communicate that effectively.

WHAT IS COVERED:

The course covers, in extreme detail:

  • Manual D® (Duct Design)
  • Manual J® (Load Calculation)
  • Manual H (Heat Pump Systems)
  • Manual P (Psychrometrics)
  • Manual S® (Equipment Selection)
  • Manual T (Air Distribution Basics)
  • Manual 4 (Perimeter Heating & Cooling)
  • Manual TT-102 (Understanding the Friction Chart)

If you do not have a good working knowledge of the resources listed above, you might consider starting with the ACCA Residential Design for Quality Installation online or in-person class.
