What Does the ACCA A2L Safety Training Cover?

ACCA’s program was developed based on the ASHRAE Standards 15 (2019), 15.2 (2022), and 34 (2019) and UL Safety Standards 60335-2-40 (2019), and 60335-2-89 (2019), which provides an introduction to the new refrigerant, instruction on how to handle it safely, and reviews tools that will be needed to work on equipment with A2L refrigerants.

The ACCA – A2L Refrigerant Safety Course Outline (2023) is divided into five modules. Each module is divided into sections that delve deeper into the respective topics, providing comprehensive knowledge about A2L refrigerants.

Module 1:
Introduction to A2L Refrigerants

An overview of A2L refrigerants, including their evolution, properties, and the applicable standards. It also discusses environmental trends, safety concerns, and precautions related to A2L refrigerants.

Module 2:
System Replacement and Refrigerant Piping Evaluation

Focuses on when system replacement is needed, OEM recommendations, and matching indoor and outdoor units. It also covers the evaluation of refrigerant piping in existing and new homes and the documentation required.

Module 3:
Refrigerant Charge Calculation

Introduces the concept of refrigerant charge calculation, focusing on A2L refrigerants. It provides a basic calculation for refrigerant change and offers applied practice scenarios.

Module 4:
Refrigerant Piping Requirements

This module discusses the installation of refrigerant piping, joint preparation, protection and support, and requirements for shafts, ventilation, and penetrations.

Module 5:
Charging Procedures and Documentation

Covers safety procedures for inspection and service, adding and recovering refrigerants, piping system tests, and documentation practices for A2L refrigerants.
