Materials Students Should Bring to the Class:
• Notepad & Pens    • Laptop (laptop is preferred over a tablet)    • Access to Microsoft Excel    • Manual J®, S®, and D® Excel Speed Sheets

DAY 1:
Manual J® in a Day

Tired of guessing on system sizing? Manual J® gives you the fundamentals for calculating heat loss and gain, teaching you exactly how to avoid undersized or oversized systems that lead to comfort complaints and callbacks.

Key topics:

  • Understanding heat transfer principles.
  • Conducting accurate load calculations.
  • Factoring in building materials, insulation, and fenestrations.
  • Managing ventilation and duct system considerations.

DAY 2:
Manual S® in a Day

When you misread performance data, you create problems for everyone involved. Manual S® teaches what those spec sheets actually mean so you can select systems that perform as promised.

Key topics:

  • Sensible heat ratio and air conditioning capacities
  • Cooling system, heat pump, and furnace selection criteria
  • Proper airflow calculations and altitude corrections
  • Sizing limits for heating and cooling systems

DAY 3:
Manual D® in a Day

Even perfect equipment fails with bad ducts. Manual D® shows you how to design systems that move air effectively without noise or wasted energy. Finally understand static pressure, sizing calculations, and proper register placement.

Key topics:

  • Sizing and designing supply and return ductwork
  • Calculating external static pressure and total effective length (TEL)
  • Determining proper airflow distribution
  • Optimizing duct placement for peak system performance
