Fred Paepke, Manager of Technical Training (Retired)

 

He started his career in HVACR upon completion of an Associate of Applied Science in Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technology from Ferris State University in 1967. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Technical Education in 1971 and a Master of Arts in Industrial Technical Education at Central Michigan University in the 1976. He is a licensed HVACR vocational teacher and has certifications in the states of New York and Michigan.

 

Served as a Refrigeration Specialist, United States Army 1967 thru 1970 and was a licensed residential builder and HVAC contractor in the State of Michigan from 1971 thru 1983.

 

Fred has instructed HVAC and Building Construction for 40 years at the public educational level (Some of the institutions he as taught at are the State University of New York, Technical College at Delhi, New York, IVY Tech State College, at Lafayette, Indiana and Ferris State University, in Big Rapids, Michigan.), and as a field HVAC instructor, teaching heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment application, installation and service. (He was a technical instructor for Bard Manufacturing Company, Bryan, Ohio, WaterFurnace International, Fort Wayne, Indiana and HydroDelta, Monroeville, Pennsylvania.) He joined G.W. Berkheimer (HVACR Wholesaler) as the Manager of Technical Training in October of 2000 until his retirement in August 2011.

 

Fred is a life member of Air Conditioning Contractors of America and an ACCA certified instructor. He was a contributor in the revisions of the Manual J 8th ed and Manual N 5th ed. He also was one of the first instructors to use the new Manual J 8th ed. abridged to instruct residential load calculation and developed an ACCA educational presentation for instructors to use in teaching manuals J, S and D.

 

He participated on the original ARI committee, to establish the NATE (North American Technician Excellence) technical certification program. He presently is NATE certified at the Senior Technician level in the following air conditioning, air source heat pumps, gas furnaces, oil furnaces, gas hydronics and air distribution.
