1.  sales person pay

looking to hire a outside sales person and would like some input on best ways to pay them and benefits.
is it better to offer a base salary with comm. or just full comm.  based  on retail price or  gross profit margins. 
also what about suppling a company vechicle and benefits

I would recommend a low base salary and commission. There are times for my sales person that I will have him do things that do not pay a commission such as promoting the business in realtor meetings, researching new products, etc. Definitely benefits and company vehicle. The company vehicle is free advertising and the benefits keep people long term.

We offer a small salary, full benefits package, company vehicle, cell/laptop/ipad and a commission structure that varies with the profit margin. We cost out all jobs individually, and we use this as a training tool for the sales team.  The pay structure includes a monthly draw against earned commissions that is balanced monthly. They get their salary check and a draw on the 15th and all of their benefit participation is deducted from this check. At the end of the month they receive a commission check for the prior month minus the draw.
