MJ8AE, an abridged version of the Eighth Edition of Manual J, provides complete instruc­tions for estimating heat loss and heat gain for residential structures. MJ8AE is sufficient for learn­ing the Manual J procedures and for undertaking hand calculations on a varied number of home applications.

New homes, homes that had significant upgrades/modifica-tions, or homes that have non-standard design elements (i.e., NFRC labeled glass, large glass areas, atriums, excessive internal loads, heat recovery systems, etc.) should use the comprehensive procedures of the unabridged version of Manual J8.
