Why NATE certification? NATE gives contractors: Marketing Edge Bottom-Line Advantage Management Edge The Trained Technician's Advantage A well-trained technician is a good technician -- few argue with that statement, because technician performance backs it up.
A recent review session followed by an open testing session in which both technicians who had walked in off the street and those who had participated in the review session revealed something interesting about tests and the value of training/reviews. There is a quantifiable difference with just a short review session. It is not that technicians don't know their job. Most often, they do. However, like every occupation, there are parts of each job that are done daily, and others monthly, and a few parts that are done only irregularly throughout the year. The industry-backed NATE-ACE examination tests technicians on what 80% of them need to know 80% of the time in a given year. A review session "refreshes" any technician's knowledge and gives him an edge when it comes to passing the NATE exam. There's a 27% difference in the passing scores between technicians who took a review or refresher class and those who did not.
